An independent, experimental project realised with private financing, exceptional cast and bold contemporary storytelling.

SYNOPSIS

Sin has a weight, they say—a burden that can’t be shrugged off. It’s like a massive rock tied to our ankles, pulling us down. But what if we could transfer that rock to someone else’s ankle? This is the plan of the Szentiványi family: to pass on their sins through an occult ritual known as sin eating. Their record of transgressions—some unknown even to them—is filled with historical injustices and political corruption poisoning Hungarian society for generations. The sins are exhausting them, pulling them down as they try to maintain their wealth and status. Yet, they refuse to drown. Where there’s will and money, there’s a way. The family uses the ritual, not just to wash their hands of their crimes, but to feed their sins to Henrik, who will carry the burden in their place.

Henrik, an ambitious journalist seeking revenge for his brother’s death caused by the family’s negligence, believes this dinner is his chance to uncover their secrets and expose them. But he’s already been trapped.

Henrik, a grief-stricken journalist infiltrates one of Hungary’s most politically connected, corrupt and wealthy families during a luxurious dinner party to expose their sins — only to discover that he is not the hunter, but the prey.

Hartung Attila

director, co-writer

This is his second feature, following his critically acclaimed debut feature, FOMO (2019), a story recounting the experience of youth sexual abuse and the crippling power of peer pressure.

“We shot on 6 cameras and now working on ways to add split screen at certain dramaturgical points. This experimental approach gives me huge creative freedom.”
